Les Misérables Manila (2016)

As someone who loves and enjoys watching theater, every experience marks a special place in my memory, senses, and heart. Les Misérables captured the hearts of many. It touched me in ways my emotions could fathom (or not) and treasure. I was beaming with great pride as I saw 2 Filipinos among the talented cast perform. Actor/Singer Rachelle Ann Go as Fantine and Australian-Filipino Chloe De Los Santos as Little Cosette.

From the prologue that goes “Look down, look down. You’ll always be a slave…” to “At the end of the day you get nothing for nothing… At the end of the day it’s another day over…” to “On my own…” among others, the libretto resonates a melody of every person’s story. It never gets old. It is timeless.

On My Own… in today’s language may be loosely compared with friend zone, “hugot” (from the depths of the heart), etc. It is an earnest longing of unrequited love. For this song alone, is a journey to ponder. And yes, it keeps playing on my mind as of this writing… I have a hangover for who knows until when.
